In the Gospel of John Chapter 15 verses 1 and 2 (John 15:1-2) God is teaching us that He sent His son Jesus Christ, a real person from history, to be truth in a world full of lies. The words are "I am the true vine, and my father is the vinedresser. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit."
Jesus and his disciples taught their message from God our Father in a world that was agrarian and whos people's language used more of a word-picture type of teaching rather than our more familiar bullet-point list type of teaching. To understand what is being taught it is helpful to know that a vinedresser is an expert worker who manages and cares for the entire vineyard.
When the vinedresser sees an unproductive or diseased vine they cut it away to keep the rest of the vine and vineyard healthy and productive. Then the vinedresser looks closely at the vines that are producing and makes surgical cuts on the vine trimming away material that blocks the growth of new and better fruit. In this way each vine throughout the whole vineyard is full, healthy and living out their true purpose in the best possible way.
In similar fashion our Father is continually working in the lives of those who love Him in order that they are made more productive and fruitful. As we all know when we are productive and fruitful work can begin to feel lighter and more joyful. God changes the mundane into wonderful works by His imagination through the hands of loving disciples.
This vine we speak about is Jesus Christ who came to save the world and He has a message of Peace and Comfort for anyone who is thirsty for truth and in need of rest from the lies, dangers and battles we face in this world.
When you feel like there is no more in the tank and you have nothing left to give then you are not alone. Jesus has made a way out for you. He did everything you have to do already. He wants you to be a part of his family no matter what you have done and who you think you are. You are wanted. Desired to be a child to the King of Kings who created all things. God is aware of you as an individual and wants a deep and profound relationship with you.
Call out to Jesus, tell Him you believe in Him and ask for forgiveness and turn away from doing what is wrong and do the things God will instruct your heart to do. That is the way to joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (these are fruit of the spirit of a forgiven child of God from Galatians 5:22-23) . If you wish for these things in your life God will give them to you generously.
May you find peace in this turbulent world. A safe harbor during a most supernatural storm.
